Vampires roamed an unruly world for centuries. Victim to plague, war, and general brutality, this world allowed these preternatural creatures to slip unnoticed between disasters as unwelcome, unwanted scavengers of humanity.

As the scientific world grew in stature and public notoriety, their findings intrigued the parallel Vampire world, which took note of these new investigators of reality. One particular discovery was the ability of some humans to influence the behaviour of others, seemingly against their own knowledge. Vampires observed these mesmerists with their strange notions. After attending exhibitions, they saw not only an interesting phenomenon, but also an invitation into the minds of those they required to control.

It did not take Vampires long to realise that while humans required tricks and techniques for their hypnosis, they were able to achieve the same result with little effort. The physical beauty of Vampires ensured that they had no difficulty approaching others, but the added ability to spellbind changed the face of the Vampire world.

Vampires discovered what the human world preferred not to believe, that it was possible to overcome the will of another and lead them unprotesting to their death. Referring to their skill as glamour, the Vampire used it without restraint to further their own ends and were responsible for more than a few social and economic upheavals.

Utilised at first to fascinate victims for sustenance, Vampires soon exploited its potential in social and business applications. It proved useful in establishing the wealth and position of the Houses which allowed secrecy, the most important aspect of Vampire life, to remain secure.

While hypnosis was a useful tool to protect The Veil, the Vampire, true to both their Demon and human heritage, exploited the exploitable. Alarmed at the impact of such widespread fascinations and the excesses of its abuse, the Ghuvk deemed that glamour be used only in situations where discovery was imminent.

Despite the edicts of their Council and the inability to enforce this particular one, young Vampires still used glamour to seduce unwary humans, not to drink blood, but because they could. The focus of a modern world upon sexual allure was the baggage brought by the fledgling Vampire and this new power corrupted all who encountered it.

The newly Unveiled were no exception. Able to seduce men and women alike, those who once might have existed upon the periphery of desire now partook of experiences once denied their human lives. The Ghuvk would ignore amusement as long as warmdri, the drinking of fresh blood, played no part of the entertainment.

However, the use was not always sexual and often included that banned practice. Glamour did not work upon other Vampires, Revenants, and Magical creatures, but it would work upon some lower caste Demons. It was successful on the majority of humans, even though some were surprisingly resilient to Vampiric overtures.

The harsh realities of the modern world had removed the innocent belief in the magic of the universe and those who once succumbed with ease to the mesmeric suggestion now could be seduced by the visual display of power and influence.

Vampires travelled in sleek expensive cars, stayed in the finest hotels, and partook of exclusive consumer goods. They had access to elite social, artistic, and political events to be considered the desired, if elusive, guest.

Their main needs were met through the Zhismi and their luxury through those who did not query the origin of the money of their clients. Those who surrendered to the Vampire had already been seduced by the trappings of wealth and power leaving glamour as the last stage in an already present model for desire.

The existence of glamour did not pass entirely unnoticed by the community and as with other Vampire truths it trickled down into human consciousness. As usual, Vampires embraced their truth and encouraged the legend for hiding in plain sight had always been their greatest asset.

When various human groups such as Wicca claimed the same ability Vampires shared the conspiratorial smiles of a myth well propagated. Theirs was not a world that required public validation and theft of their identity was considered the greatest asset in protecting The Veil from discovery.

To glamour a being, their personal space was first invaded. This was an uncomplicated process, because fortuitously the human brain had already been hardwired to appreciate beauty. The near proximity of desire was a heady experience that not only reduced resistance, but also tended to blur the boundaries of sexual preference leaving the victim often to consider options they had never previously entertained.

Once a Vampire was within reach they would make physical contact knowing that the sudden hormonal rush would leave their quarry off balance. It was at this moment the Vampire would gaze into the eyes of the one they wished to manipulate. Once under their thrall the victim would acquiesce to almost every demand requested of them, even those against their personal beliefs.

The Vampire did not require glamour to seduce those surrounding them for Demons and humans alike responded naturally to wealth, charm and beauty. The use of glamour for control occurred when the Vampire wished to ensure the success of a personal agenda or as an exhibition of power. Those who had felt powerless in their previous life would glamour others when manipulation itself was the purpose. Other young Tyros used glamour to instigate sexual intrigues, flout social conventions, and if their activity roamed too closely to compromising The Veil then they were quickly sorted by their own kind.
